Blackland Chronology is an independent editorial magazine about the history of Denton County, Texas. It covers the county seat and its courthouse square, the towns and rural communities of the Blackland Prairie and the Cross Timbers, and the farm, ranch, school, church and business life of the county from the pioneer era onward.
A second subject runs through the magazine: the archival record itself. Articles discuss deed, probate, census and cemetery records, local newspapers, photographs and Texas Historical Commission marker files, and they show how a family historian actually reads such records. There are sections for County History, Records and Research, Places and Maps, and Music and Community.
How the articles are written
Every article is written in the third person and from public sources. Each text names the sources it draws on, so a reader can go to the same deed book, census page, newspaper issue or marker file and check the statements made there. The magazine states its limits: where the record is incomplete, silent or contradictory, the article says so rather than filling the gap.
Blackland Chronology writes about places, records and people. It holds no collection and offers no research, reproduction or search service. It sells no artefacts. The website is edited by The Blackland Chronology editorial team and is hosted on Cloudflare.
